The Women's Centre works with our community and government partners to address social, legal, and economic issues that affect women and their families.
Currently we are working on:
- Developing supportive housing for youth placed at risk (SHYFT)
- Engaging youth as peer educators and communtity leaders on illicit drug use (Youth, Truth, Matters)
- Advocating for specialized Sexual Assault Services in the Tri-Counties
- Building a sustainable, healthy and local food system that is accessible to everyone (Tri-County Local Food Network)
- Addressing poverty and women's economic security
- Identifying necessary changes to the legal system to reflect women's reality
- Working to support women with the complexities around smoking cessation
Women's Action Coalition of Nova Scotia
The Women’s Action Coalition of Nova Scotia (WACNS) is an independent non-partisan alliance of organizations and individual women. WACNS advocates for women’s social justice and public policies that ensure equality, justice, dignity, peace and security for all.
WACNS works within Nova Scotia and in solidarity with women’s social justice groups around the world.
The structure of WACNS is made up of an executive and “working groups” that do the research and formulate a feminist voice on issues that impact women and their families.
