Current or On-Going Programs:
Smart Start– A re-entry program for women who are wishing to reenter the workforce, school, or her community. This program is an 12 week program. In January 2008, we will be offering a condensed version of this great program. It will be run 3 days a week for 8 weeks. The funding for this program is from the Department of Community Services and the Tri-County Women’s Centre. Voices: A Program of Discovery and Empowerment– Voices is a program encouraging increased self-esteem and empowerment for girls between the ages of 13-17 years old. The program has just wrapped up in several junior highs in the Yarmouth, Digby and Shelburne counties. This is an 18 week program. The program was funded by the local offices of the Department of Community Services in Yarmouth, Digby and Shelburne. In early 2008, we will be offering the program again in Digby and also in the Yarmouth Junior High. It’s A Girl Thing - program designed for girls age 13-15 to camp out together, discuss a variety of topics of their choice, explore who they are, who they would like to be, enjoy and discover nature, swim, play games, talk around the campfire, sing, share thoughts and discover new friends. There is a $20 registration fee for this program.
Girl Power- Girl Power is a summer camp for girls between the ages of 9-12 years old. The camp focuses on self-esteem, empowerment, and fun. Over the week the girls will discuss issues they face, do crafts and get the opportunity to meet women in the area who are involved in non-traditional roles. The program is offered in several different locations in the Yarmouth area. There is a $10 registration fee for this program. Self-Esteem- TCWC offers an eight week self-esteem program. We offer this program throughout the year once a week either in the afternoon or evening. This program looks at self-esteem, communication, anger, stress and the media. We are also in the process of developing a self-esteem program for professional women. Knowledge is Power- K.I.P.P. is held Tuesday mornings. It is a participant driven program for women. The program covers a variety of topics as chosen by the participants. This program is on-going. So far we have covered women in media, addiction, crafts, legal issues, We thank all the individuals, organizations and agencies who have partnered and/or supported these programs |
