The Yarmouth Centre for Sexual Health is a separate organization from the Tri-County Women’s Centre although TCWC very graciously donates space in a back office for the centre. On February 11, 2005, Planned Parenthood of Yarmouth County opened its doors to the community of Yarmouth. The objectives of PPYC are to promote healthy sexuality through education, partnership and advocacy and to provide services to assist individuals in making informed choices related to their sexual and reproductive health.

 

In 2006, Planned Parenthoods across Canada changed their name to Sexual Health Centres to better reflect the work they do.

 

We are very excited to have this invaluable service available in Yarmouth. We offer a variety of services including:

 

Free pregnancy tests
Pregnancy option information and referrals
Information on birth control options
Free condoms and lube
Lending library and resources
Public education on healthy sexuality and related issues
One-on-one information regarding sexual health issues, including: birth control, STI's, healthy relationships, respecting sexual orientation, sexual harassment, and other issues

 

The centre is also involved with many community initiatives including the Youth Health Centre committee, Spring into Wellness, School for Warriors without Weapons, NSASH, and the Dalhousie research on the Factors of Teen pregnancy in Yarmouth.

 

At the centre all information and appointments are strictly confidential, including results of pregnancy tests.

 

If there is a positive result for a pregnancy test we offer information on all 3 options available.

We are pro-choice, meaning we believe women have 3 options when finding out they are pregnant, continuing with the pregnancy and raising the baby, continuing with the pregnancy and putting the baby up for adoption or terminating the pregnancy.

 

We are also gay, lesbian, bi-sexual positive.
